Gear Design Theory
Gear Design Software , Simulation, for CNC, 3D Printing, etc
The following programs make the calculations much easier and most of these can create DXF files for direct import into a CAD or CNC program
Mathias Wandel - www.woodgears.ca : This is one of the most impressive freeware programs. A limted free demo and purchase versions available - I bought one and it saved hours. It exports files in .DXF, SketchUp, etc.
OpenSource Application - http://www.forestmoon.com/Software/GearDXF/ , that loads a 2.5D .DXF and then converts it to a GCode file. The file can be simulated or connected to a real CNC machine. I haven't test this connected to my CNC yet, but the conversion seems to work well.

Next Project: Water Clocks (clepsydra)
(Greek κλέπτειν kleptein, 'to steal'; ὕδωρ hudor, 'water')
Diagram of a fancy clepsydra. Water enters and raises the figure, which points at the current hour for the day. Spillover water operates a series of gears that rotates a cylinder so that hour lengths are appropriate for today's date. The ancient Greeks and Romans had twelve hours from sunrise to sunset; since summer days are longer than winter days, summer hours were longer than winter hours.

The Digesting Duck by Jacques de Vaucanson, hailed in 1739 as the first automaton capable of digestion.
